The INSPIRATION

Driving down quintessentially Australian dirt roads, watching the gentle hues of dusk settling across the bush, conjures memories of a carefree, country childhood. The charm of the countryside, its wide-open spaces, fresh, scented air – sometimes crisp, sometimes heavy with the expectation of rain, or shimmering with the reminiscent heat of a dry summer’s day, an ever present, dreamy, romantic quality of light, where time moves slowly. A glance across the picturesque farmlands, framed by rolling green hills, or flat ochre-coloured paddocks that seem to reach the horizon, reveals a glimpse of a rusted, corrugated iron roof – a nostalgic and distinctly Australian icon.

Ode to an Australian Icon

Invented in the early 1800s in London, corrugated iron became ubiquitous in Australian rural areas, adorning shearing sheds and water tanks, shacks and homesteads alike. An iconic feature of Australia’s landscape, and reflective of our cultural identity – an unpretentious, resilient hero that was born out of necessity.

In the1970s and 1980s, it become a respectable, even fashionable, vernacular of sorts when Australian architects like Richard Leplastrier and Glenn Murcutt created lightweight and elegant buildings made almost entirely from the material. Today an aerial view of our suburbs show a veritable sea of corrugated metal rooves, the material is an enduring vision of our Australian urban landscape too.
 

The COLLECTION

Our latest collection is a tribute to our Australian heritage and commitment to quality Australian design. It references the iconic undulations in a series of subtle, minimalistic lines. Elegant in its restraint, the collection was designed to echo the adaptability of its muse, suited to an array of settings – industrial, minimal, maximal, traditional or modern. The collection features a freestanding bath, countertop and pedestal basin, each handcrafted from our sustainable, apaiserMARBLE^®.

Each piece of the Ode collection was designed to arouse memories of the Australian bush, a place where the light is dreamy, the air scented with eucalypt and earth, and rain drums rhythmically on the tin roof. A place where time moves a little slower, and where you can immerse yourself for a little while and enjoy your own private sanctuary in stone.

Designed by our studio in Melbourne, Australia, all apaiser pieces are handcrafted by master craftsmen in our atelier from apaiserMARBLE^® – a luxurious and sustainable blend of reclaimed marble with stones and minerals from the Australian Barossa. As a proud Australian brand, our desire to preserve our beautiful country and the world around us, inspired us to explore recycled and ethically sourced raw materials and environmentally sensitive production processes.
